In case you haven’t heard; it’s been snowing here and it’s cold. So cold in fact that at night, it is only 2 degrees warmer than the South Pole; can you believe that? Maybe Manny the Mammoth and Sid the Sloth predicted it well when they called their documentary film Ice Age. At first, it was a bit of a novelty; we don’t get much snow in the South West since we catch the ‘warm’ Atlantic current (who are the meteorologists kidding, the Atlantic is nothing like a ‘warm bath’ unless you’re Icelandic and regularly dip into ice!) so the kids (and yes, me too) have been revelling in it. Everything looks magical and we got to build snowmen in our lunch breaks but schools have closed, people can’t get into work and despite having several layers on, I currently feel like I have a bag of smarties rattling around in my bra!
It’s going to be a busy weekend for me. Tonight I’m off to the docs to talk about malaria tablets etc before I go and tomorrow…….I’m going to book my tickets! Its 9 weeks to go ladies and gents and that thought is rather sobering. Tomorrow morning I will wake up still feeling like my travels are a distant thought and by the afternoon I will have bought and paid for my flights to Japan and back from Bali. It’s all getting rather real now and the doubts that I have spent the last 9 months not feeling, are beginning to surface for the first time. Since I told everyone I was going away, I have been told that I’m ‘mad’, ‘braver than I am’ and (my personal favourite) ‘bonkers’ for going it alone and have spent all that time defending my journey telling everyone that people ‘do it all the time’ and ‘I’m not stupid or brave, just excited’ but I think (naturally) those remarks are starting to sink in a little. I mean, let’s face it. I’m about to leave my job for three months, pack up and ship off around countries that I have never been to, don’t know anyone that has been and where I don’t speak the language, all solo; I guess you have to be pretty mad to do it right?! Lol. But it will all be worth it and I will be the one to have the trip of a lifetime whilst those ‘scaredy cats’ sit and moan about their day jobs 😀
I’ll also be making my invitations for my farewell family dinner now that I have my logo finished…I’ll post a photo of my finished masterpiece so that you can all bask in its glory haha.
I had a bit of a giggle on Facebook last night. I joined a group called ‘Jog on…you knobheads’…yes, it is a rather derogatory title isn’t it?! But it’s actually pretty funny to read. Don’t get me wrong, the group is rude and offensive but that’s the whole fun of it. To explain ‘jog on’, it’s simply a term that’s become common for politely saying ‘p*** off, you’re an idiot and annoying the hell out of me’. You can say it about anything or anyone you want. There are comments about our Prime Minister, to the ex’s who cheated or to the woman at the cash desk that was more interested in doing her nails than serving you.
So my question is…who would you tell to ‘jog on’ today?!
p.s. please bear with me – I’m still trying to work out the black background/grey text thing. I’ll get there soon I promise!
