Whoa Nelly!

As of Saturday my purse is now Ā£1,200 lighter and my plastic didn’t feel a thing šŸ™‚ I booked my flights to Japan and back from Bali, the first few nights of accommodation and a couple of tours to help me ease into the travel ahead. I’d like to say that I was ‘over the moon’ and excited but in all honesty, I was a bit all over the place and had a few tears over lunch with mum.

If you’ve been reading me for a while you will know that I wasn’t planning on booking anything until I get over there because I wanted the freedom and flexibility to do what I wanted when I wanted. However that ‘plan’ is now firmly out of the window as apparently I have to lock down my itinerary to each day for both Japan and China because of their visa requirements. Japan isn’t so bad but China? Even my train ticket has to be approved by the Government before I go. I feel naive; I had no idea that their human rights for foreign or national people were so strict and it’s scary. Do you remember the other day when I talked about how uncomfortable I felt knowing that China executed a mentally ill British man? Well, now add the above to that equation and suddenly China isn’t looking so good. It’s a bit like when you have to walk through a security gate at the airport and it beeps; you feel guilty even when you know you haven’t done anything wrong. However, Iā€™m flying over with Cathay Pacific which is one of the best airlines in the world so at least the trip is starting off well šŸ™‚

So I guess, everything got to me a little at the realisation that it’s now all very real and in a little over 8 weeks I will leave everything I have ever known for three months for the very UNknown and that is a little daunting to say the least. But I will have the adventure of a lifetime so it will all be very much worth it.

And despite spending that amount of money in less than an hour, I treated myself to a few other things but you’ll have to come back on Wednesday to see them ā€“ and yes, it will be worth it. In the meantime, here is one of the invitations I made for my family dinner…I like the elegant paper being the contrast to my unique logo; I’m very happy with them!

And before I sign off…may I say a HUGE thank you to Rachel from Rachel’s Ramblings for sorting out the background problem I was having with my website…it was confusing the hell out of me when, out of nowhere, comes an HTML angel to take all my worries away.Ā  She also helped me with the code for turning my logo into a button (something which Stacy also offered) which you can find nicely tucked away in my sidebar.Ā  I bow to you oh great one šŸ˜€

  1. I was a bit nervous before going to China (and Russia, for that matter… anywhere that requires visas and has immigration officers with guns!) but aside from at the border, I didn’t feel nervous when I was there. It really is all a grand adventure – just make sure your paperwork is in order and you’ll have a great time, I’m sure šŸ™‚

Rachel – I feel fine about it now; think it was just the jitters of it all realising how scary and daunting it is to go nearly half the way round the world by myself but as you say, I’m sure I’ll have a great time!

  3. Very glad to be able to read your blog better!

You know, you could have always just come to America! I could have taken you to meet tons of bloggers! šŸ™‚
